Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) said nearly 8.5 million of its Windows devices have been affected by a software update issue originating from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. The issue, which Microsoft detailed in a blog post Saturday, affected less than 1 percent of all Windows devices worldwide.

Microsoft has been actively addressing the issue, noting that CrowdStrike played an active role in developing a scalable solution to accelerate the resolution process. This solution is designed to help Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure implement the fix quickly. Microsoft also worked closely with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform to develop the most effective remediation strategies as part of their collaborative efforts.

The fallout extended beyond Microsoft, with air travelers around the world experiencing flight delays, cancellations and check-in difficulties. The IT outage also affected several sectors, including banking and media, indicating a wide-ranging impact across multiple industries.
