U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Utilities and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close of trading in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.62%, reaching an all-time high, while the S&P 500 strengthened its position and rose 0.38%, and the Nasdaq rose by about 0.02%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 3.33% or 10.35 points to trade at 321.13 at the close. Meanwhile, Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) added 2.40% or 3.92 points to end at 167.33 and Merck & Co (NYSE:MRK) was up 1.79% or 1.82 points to 102.99 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which fell 4.60% or 2.25 points to trade at 46.65 at the close. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) fell 3.42% or 13.95 points to end at 394.26 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) was down 0.88% or 1.85 points to 208.20.
On the other hand, the best performance in the S&P 500 was recorded by Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ:AXON), which rose by 26.64% to 593.61, Insulet Corp (NASDAQ:PODD) which also continued to rise by 10.91% and closed at 271.71, and Fortinet (NASDAQ:FTNT) which rose by 9.44% and closed at 91.58.
The worst performing stocks today were Akamai Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:AKAM), which fell 13.43% to 90.38, Airbnb Inc (NASDAQ:ABNB), which lost 8.75% to settle at 134.48 and Arista Networks Inc (NYSE:ANET), which was down 7.57% to 398.40 at the close.
On the other hand, the best performers on the NASDAQ were Innodata Isogen (NASDAQ:INOD), which rose 76.79% to 43.03, Sezzle Inc (NASDAQ:SEZL) which rose 67.68% to 420.00 and Sonder Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SOND) which rose 68.08% to 4.55.
The worst performers today were ProPhase Labs Inc (NASDAQ:PRPH), which fell 48.24% to 0.74 in late trade, Earlyworks Co Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:ELWS), which lost 44.00% to settle at 3.78 and Maravai Life Science Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MRVI), which fell 37.12% to close at 4.93 in the session.
Advancing stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1,617 to 1,186, while 39 ended unchanged. On the Nasdaq, 1,654 advanced, 1,615 declined and 77 ended unchanged.
Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ:AXON) stock climbed to a new all-time high, up 26.64% or 124.86 to 593.61. Insulet Corp (NASDAQ:PODD) stock climbed to a new 52-week high, up 10.91% or 26.74 to 271.71. Fortinet (NASDAQ:FTNT) stock climbed to a new all-time high, up 9.44% or 7.90 to 91.58. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) stock climbed to a new all-time high, up 3.33% or 10.35 to 321.13. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) stock fell to a new 52-week low, losing 4.60% or 2.25 points to end at 46.65. Innodata Isogen (NASDAQ:INOD) stock rose to a new all-time high, rising 76.79% or 18.69 points to end at 43.03. ProPhase Labs (NASDAQ:PRPH) stock fell to a new all-time low, falling 48.24% or 0.69 to end at 0.74. Sezzle Inc (NASDAQ:SEZL) stock rose to a new 3-year high, rising 67.68% or 169.53 points to end at 420.00.
The S&P 500 Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of options on the S&P 500, was down 0.07% to 15.19, hitting a new 1-month high.
Gold futures for December delivery fell 0.38% or 10.35 to $2,695.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, WTI crude oil futures for December delivery fell 2.54% or 1.84 to $70.52 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.12% or 1.60 to $74.03 a barrel.
The EUR/USD pair lost 0.81% and traded at 1.07, while the USD/JPY pair continued to decline by 0.19% and reached 152.63.
Dollar index futures were trading 0.49% higher at 104.88.
