ADNOC Distribution and Abu Dhabi National Energy Company TAQA signed an agreement aimed at launching a new partnership under the name E2GO to establish and operate the infrastructure needed to charge electric vehicles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and throughout the country.

According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the agreement that will pave the way for the launch of the partnership was signed by Badr Saeed Al Lamki, CEO of ADNOC Distribution, and Jassim Hussein Thabet, Group CEO and Managing Director of TAQA, as it was announced during the events Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023.

The demand for electric vehicles in the UAE has witnessed steady growth over the past years, and is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 30% during the period from 2022 to 2028, according to the Global Electric Mobility Readiness Index for the year 2022.

The E2GO project comes in line with the development of the electric vehicle market in the UAE, which is witnessing rapid growth, as it is expected that there will be a need to establish up to 70,000 electric charging points in Abu Dhabi by 2030 to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles. The establishment of this important infrastructure requires investments amounting to about 734 million dirhams (200 million dollars) as capital expenditures.

The project, which is supported by two of the largest national energy companies in the Emirates, aims to be the main provider of solutions for charging electric vehicles and related infrastructure in various parts of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, including fast electric charging points in the main areas of the emirate, and related services such as parking, And vehicle traffic tariffs, and the provision of digital platforms, to facilitate the charging of electric vehicles, enhance the level of customer service, and create new sources of revenue.

The partnership between ADNOC Distribution and TAQA is based on the Abu Dhabi Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Policy, which was recently launched by the Department of Energy. emissions from the transport sector.
