The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s holdings of US Treasury bonds decreased by 2.96% during the month of May 2023, on an annual basis.

The kingdom's holdings of bonds decreased. According to monthly US Treasury data, it reached $111.3 billion at the end of last May, compared to $114.7 billion at the end of the same month in 2022, a decline of $3.4 billion.

The Kingdom’s holdings of bonds also decreased on a monthly basis, by $2 billion, during May 2023, compared to last April, which amounted to $113.3 billion at the end.

Saudi Arabia ranked 18th in the world in the list of the largest investors in US Treasury bonds by the end of May 2023, compared to the 17th place last April.

Japan topped the list of the largest investors in US Treasury bonds at the end of last May, with a total of $1,096.8 billion ($1.096 trillion), followed by China with investments amounting to $846.7 billion, then the United Kingdom with $666.6 billion.

And at the level of Arab countries; Saudi Arabia came in first place with US Treasury bond investments. Followed by the UAE, with investments amounting to $69 billion, to rank 23rd in the world, increasing its holdings of US bonds by 79.7%, as it recorded in May 2022 about $38.4 billion, followed by Kuwait, with investments of $41.4 billion (31st globally), then Iraq, to drop its position to 36th. globally, and fourth in the Arab world, with $32.7 billion.

As for the United States of America, the total value of bond issues increased by 1.57% by the end of May 2023 on an annual basis, while it decreased by 0.7% on a monthly basis.

The value of US Treasury bond issues amounted to $7,527.4 billion ($7.527 trillion) at the end of last May, compared to $7,410.8 billion ($7.410 trillion) at the end of the same month of 2022, noting that it was $7580.8 billion ($7.580 trillion). At the end of April 2023.
