Japan's Nikkei average rose for a third straight session on Wednesday, with shares of Advantest and other chip-related companies following gains on Wall Street overnight Tuesday.

The Nikkei index rose 0.25 percent to close at 32,926.35 points, and the broader Topix index rose 0.07 percent to 2,354.92 points.

Shigetoshi Kamada, general manager of the research department at Tachibana Securities, said the Japanese market rose, driven by Wall Street momentum, where the Dow Jones index headed to record a record high.

Advantest, a chip maker, jumped 5.19 percent, and Renesas Electronics, a chip maker, jumped 3.75 percent. Tokyo Electron, a maker of chip testing equipment, also rose 4.71 percent.

Yoshio shares recorded a jump of 12.27 percent after it said that it would cooperate with Applied Materials to develop technology for the advanced semiconductor packaging market.

Of the 225 stocks on the Nikkei index, 149 fell and 75 rose, with one company's stock remaining stable.
