Egypt's Minister of Electricity, Mohamed Shaker, said that his country intends to start construction of the Dabaa nuclear plant during the second half of next year 2022.

Shaker added that the necessary technical documents had been submitted to the Egyptian supervisory body as part of the requirements for obtaining construction permits for the first and second units, which are scheduled to be issued in the second half of the year. next.

He clarified that Egypt affirms the supreme goal for which the Agency was established, which is based on the dissemination and promotion of the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, which is the inherent right affirmed by the Non-Proliferation Treaty in its fourth article.

In his speech at the opening session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency in its 65th session, which will be held from 20 to 24 September in Vienna, Shaker stated that Egypt supports The historic decision by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to include nuclear energy in the scenario of limiting the growth of ambient temperatures and working to increase the pace of construction of nuclear plants around the world in order to implement the decisions of the Paris Summit on Climate Change and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

He referred to Egypt's efforts in research and development activities in the fields of peaceful use of atomic energy to contribute to promoting sustainable development and community service, including in the areas of health, food, agriculture and water resources.
