The US administration warned Iran against any move regarding the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
According to Reuters, the US warnings to Iran came in preparation for any response from the latter to the United States ending Iranian oil purchase exemptions.
A senior administration official said it would neither be justified nor acceptable to any backlash from Iran.
The official told a small group of journalists that US President Trump was confident that Saudi Arabia and the UAE would honor their pledges to make up the difference in oil supplies to the eight countries that received exemptions from US sanctions.
He added that the United States does not see a need to study the use of the strategic petroleum reserve after the termination of exemptions.
He pointed out that US officials are now looking at ways to prevent Iran from circumventing the existing oil sanctions.
For his part, Saudi Energy Minister Eng. Khaled Al-Falih said that Saudi Arabia is closely monitoring the oil market after the US statement regarding Iranian oil exemptions.
Al-Falih added that the kingdom will work to ensure the availability of oil supplies to consumers and the imbalance of the global oil market.
